Video games groom kids for gambling: Xeno

Independent Senator Nick Xenophon wants some popular video games played by teenagers to be subject to gambling laws.

He says games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive - a competitive, multi-player online shooting game - are "grooming" children for gambling, and he plans to push a bill to include them under the Interactive Gambling Act when federal parliament resumes in August.

Senator Xenophon says he's concerned about "poker machine-type features with spinning wheels" and the way some games offer credits that are linked to gambling sites.

"There are lots of unwitting parents out there who don't realise their kids are being groomed to gamble this way," he told AAP on Sunday.

He wants such sites to include warnings and block gambling links.
