Victorian schoolgirl testifies to alleged abduction

A rural Victorian school is in shock after student went missing for hours after getting off the school bus.

The student from Flinders Christian College in Tyabb had just hopped off the bus and was walking home up Cain Rd on Monday night.

She's since told police she was approached by a man and taken away in a vehicle.

Neighbours enlisted each other to scour their properties and the nearby beach.

"A gentleman came to our door and asked to check our backyard because a girl had been, her school bag had been found up the road," neighbour Mel Worrell said.

The girl took a bus from Flinders Christian College in Tyabb before arriving in Rye at around 5pm

A frantic search ended when the year seven was located, 11km away at McCrae.

The girl has told police she awoke near the McCrae lighthouse, two hours after she got off the bus.

She was disorientated and immediately contacted her mother.

The student has been away from school since the incident occurred on Monday night.

"We are hugely grateful that she was found safe and is now at home with her family," Flinders Christian College executive principal Cameron Pearce said. 

The girl was uninjured, while police are continuing to establish the facts around her disappearance.
