Victorian Liberal candidate's car hit by ambulance

The campaign for one Liberal candidate, contesting one of Victoria’s most marginal seats, almost crashed to a halt yesterday after his car was reportedly hit by an ambulance.

Police were called to a laneway near Were Street, Montmorency in Melbourne’s northeast, about noon after reports of a crash.

They found Victorian Liberal candidate for Eltham, Steven Briffa, and his damaged Nissan 370Z.

The candidate, who is also a local councillor, alleged the front bumper of his car was damaged when an ambulance reversed into it.

Mr Briffa has reportedly claimed he was deliberately rammed as part of the Victorian Ambulance service’s ongoing campaign against the Napthine government.

But Ambulance Employee Union secretary Steve McGhie told the Herald Sun the allegations were nonsense.

Mr Briffa, has been a councillor for six years and is considered a good chance to win Eltham away from Labor, who hold the seat with a margin of 0.8 percent.
