Victorian family identified as MH17 victims

A Victorian family of five have been named as the latest victims of the MH17 plane crash in Ukraine.

Johannes van den Hende and his wife Shaliza Dewa, as well as their children Piers, 15, Marnix, 12 and Margaux, 8 all died in the disaster.

Mr van den Hende was born in the Netherlands and Ms Dewa was from Malaysia, but the family lived in Eynesbury, on Melbourne's western outskirts.

Eldest child Piers played for football team Melton Phoenix Under 15s, and the club's president Steve Williamson told The Age the community was devastated by the loss.

"They were great people, really nice people, a nice family and down to earth," he said.

"It's unbelievable."

The family were returning from a holiday in Amsterdam, and Ms Dewa's mother had been waiting for them at Kuala Lumpur Airport when she heard the news.

The death toll from the crash stands at 298, including 28 Australians.
