Victoria's euthanasia bill in doubt

Two key state Victorian MPs have withdrawn their support from the assisted-dying package just days after it passed the lower house of parliament.

According to The Australian, support for the bill has been cut by three votes.

It comes after former prime ministers Paul Keating and Tony Abbott warning against supporting the bill.

State Liberal frontbencher Georgie Crozier told The Australian she would not be supporting the bill having spoken to a number of health professionals who she says believe the proposed law to be flawed.

Independent James Purcell's support of the bill is also in doubt. 

With other pro-euthanasia votes in doubt, support for the bill is estimated to be split 20-20.

Lobbying efforts for and against the bill are expected to heat up this week.

The Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2017, which passed through the lower house on Friday, goes before the Legislative Council next week.
