Victorian cyclist survives 'kangaroo apocalypse'

A Victorian cyclist has had an eerie experience with a huge mob of kangaroos during a leisurely pedal through parkland north of Melbourne.

Ben Vezina uploaded footage of the unsettling encounter, which took place in Hawstowe Park, South Morang, to YouTube yesterday.

In a scene reminiscent of Captain Willard's arrival at Colonel Kurtz's lair in Apocalypse Now, Mr Vezina's is suddenly confronted by dozens upon dozens of roos, standing upright and perfectly quiet, all staring at him unflinchingly.

"Oh my God," Mr Vezina says.

"Instead of a zombie apocalypse, it's a f---ing kangaroo… I'm gonna be honest, I'm a little terrified."

Quite – though a few of the roos begin to peel off as he rides past them, the overcast sky and muted colours create an oppressive and foreboding atmosphere.

Despite this, Mr Vezina encourages other cyclists to visit the park, citing his video as proof that kangaroos can "coexist with people and never attack them."
