Victoria to trial home quarantine from October 27

Victoria will follow in the footsteps of other Australian states such as Queensland and trial home quarantine for fully vaccinated Aussies returning from overseas.

The trial is set to start on October 27, with passengers onboard a London to Tullamarine flight specifically chosen to kick the program off.

Participants will be able to quarantine from their home for seven days but will be monitored by a mobile phone app with facial recognition and location technologies.

Victoria Police as well COVID Quarantine Victoria staff are set to keep a close eye on the program for any potential breaches.

The move comes after the Queensland government announced a similar program earlier this month for Queenslanders travelling interstate, while New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet announced the state would be scrapping quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated Aussies altogether for international travel.

The home quarantine scheme was part of an original arrangement organised by NSW, Victoria and the commonwealth which was due to launch a trial in replacement of hotels.

The previous start date for the plan was set for November 9, however Mr Perrottet made the surprise decision to totally ditch the requirement for quarantining across the state.

All quarantine will be scrapped for fully vaccinated international arrivals entering NSW from November 1.

To qualify for no quarantine, arrivals from overseas will need to be fully vaccinated with a TGA-approved vaccine, including AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.

Travellers will also need to do a PCR COVID-19 test before boarding their flight and will have to show proof of vaccination.
