Victoria's Tony Smith joins Speaker race

Victorian Liberal MP Tony Smith is throwing his hat in the ring to become Speaker in the wake of Bronwyn Bishop's resignation.

Mr Smith has reportedly written to colleagues seeking their support during a party room ballot next Monday.

"I ... believe I have the experience, temperament, and strength necessary to do the job," he said in an email, obtained by the Herald Sun on Wednesday.
