Victoria records first road death of festive season

A man has died on the Monash Freeway in Dandenong North, becoming Victoria's first fatality of the holiday road toll period.
Police believe a silver Proton was travelling outbound at around 1.30am when the driver lost control and crashed into the wire barriers on the median strip.
He died at the scene and has not yet been identified.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
Road Policing Assistant Commissioner Robert Hill has urged drivers to be vigilant.
"I'm urging all Victorians to think about the safety of themselves and their loved ones this year," he said.
"Be courteous, patient and respect others on the road, it's not a race."
Assistant Commissioner Hill reminded drivers to stay focused, wear a seatbelt and take regular breaks.
"If you had a long Christmas Day please be wary that you may still have alcohol in your system or be fatigued while driving on unfamiliar roads."
