Where do I apply for a permit?
Lodge an application online at Service NSW, a government agency.
How long will it take?
A message on the Service NSW on Wednesday morning stated: "The permit application system is experiencing high levels of demand. You may experience delays in securing a permit."
Who is eligible for a permit?
NSW residents returning home, cross-border residents, members of parliament and their staff members, consular officials, seasonal workers, boarding school and university students or a parent / guardian accompanying students, carers for individuals entering NSW and essential workers.
What are the critical services jobs eligible for a permit?
Freight and logistics, maintenance and repair of critical infrastructure, medical or hospital care, mining, agriculture, construction, energy or manufacturing, Commonwealth defence and security services
Are there any instances where I don't need a permit?
Yes, but you will need documentary proof if you fall into one of the following categories:
- emergency or law enforcement services workers
- if you require medical or hospital services
- if you are avoiding injury or escaping a risk of harm
- to attend court or to meet other legal obligations.
Do border community residents need permits?
Yes. Border community residents will be allowed to travel across the border in both directions but they must obtain a permit.
Will I be put into hotel quarantine in NSW?
No. But you must self-isolate for 14 days at a specific address in NSW if you cross the border with a permit.
What details will I need to apply?
Your personal details, contact details, your exemption category, a declaration on your COVID-19 exposure and overseas travel in the last 14 days and the address where you intend to stay in NSW.
