Woman and dog swept into Melbourne river amid wild weather
A woman who leapt into a raging river to rescue her dog is lucky to be alive after the current swept the pair downstream.
Melbourne woman Madi and her dog Minka had to be rescued from the Werribee River, south-west of Melbourne, around 1.30pm yesterday after she dove into fast-moving waters to save her dog.
It comes after severe weather hit parts of the east coast, resulting in widespread flooding across Victoria.

A passer-by raised the alarm when they saw the 29-year-old holding onto a tree in the rapid waters.
Police have been told the woman lost her footing near Redgum Close and was swept about 20 metres downstream when she tried to retrieve Minka.

Search and Rescue squads, police and the SES were able to rescue them, pulling them from the riverbank.
Police said the pair were lucky to escape serious injuries.
