Man dies during attempted armed robbery in Victorian town

A man who was reportedly attempting to rob a business has died after being restrained by staff in Victoria's east.

Police said two men and a woman broke into the premises on Traralgon West Road, Maryvale, about 12.20am today when they were caught by staff.

Police said staff chased down the intruders, catching one of the men who subsequently lost consciousness.

That man, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

A second male intruder who was caught at the scene is currently assisting police with their inquiries, while the woman remains on the run.

The exact circumstances surrounding the death are yet to be determined.

Homicide detectives are currently on scene.
