Victims targeted by an alleged gunman say they'll 'never feel safe again'

The victims caught up in an alleged gunman's crime spree say they'll never feel safe again.

The driver, who was arrested over after the dramatic chase, remains under police guard in hospital.

Charges are however expected to be laid in the coming hours.

Alex Pyancic was behind the wheel of his mother's car, when he was T-boned by the offender.

"Our car spun multiple times, into ongoing traffic, a few cars avoided us which was lucky," he said.

His 63-year-old mother was hospitalised with bruising, broken ribs and internal bleeding.

"He said 'I've got a gun', he put his hand into his bag, that's when everyone backed off and let him go," Mr Pyancic said.

The man allegedly ran and lead police on a dangerous and dramatic 20 kilometre chase across Melbourne's west.

The 24-year-old was filmed speeding through roundabouts and across median strips.

Police ended the spree by ramming the SUV, pouncing on top of the fugitive and throwing punches.

"He's going to recover from the kicks and punches a lot quicker than other people that were involved, especially the family that actually had the gun pulled on them," Mr Pyancic said.

The victim - another grandmother - was cooking lunch for her husband when police say the offender stormed into her house, pinned her against a wall and held a gun to her head.

The 58-year-old victim told 9News that she is still scared for her life and feared the man who attacked would return.

It was her vehicle at the centre of the dynamic chase and arrest.

The Box Hill man remains under police guard at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

He was wanted in relation to another firearms investigation in Melbourne's east.

The gun allegedly used yesterday hasn't been found.
