Outrage after women photographed sunbaking in Victorian cemetery

Two women who were photographed sunbaking on top of graves in a Victorian cemetery have been asked to apologise for their actions.

A photo of the pair in the middle of a tanning session at Glenmaggie Cemetery in the Gippsland region has caused outrage after it circulated social media sites.

Peter Coleman, who has three generation of relatives buried at the cemetery and is a member of its trust, told the Herald Sun the local community was disappointed by their actions.

"It's not the done thing in my eyes, it's ridiculous," Mr Coleman said.

"Thankfully there was no damage, that was my big concern."

Mr Coleman said the women should apologise to the area for the incident, while others on social media cast their views.

"You disrespectful girls, this is truly shameful," a woman who had relatives in the cemetery wrote on Facebook.

"This is disgusting that is my friend's grandparents grave they are sunbaking on," another wrote.

The identities of the women, both believed to be in their 40s, has not been revealed.
