Vic robber stabs woman, leaves till in cab

A woman has been stabbed in a botched convenience store robbery that ended with the bandit discarding the cash register in a taxi.

He stabbed the woman in the upper body in the Fitzroy North store on Wednesday afternoon before taking the till and trying to flee in the cab, police said.

It was the same one he'd flagged to get to the shop and asked to wait for him.

However passers-by intervened and forced the man to ditch the register before he jumped out and ran away.

The woman was hospitalised in a serious but stable condition.
