Phone caller sought in Vic homicide probe

An anonymous caller phoned Victoria Police after discovering a woman's body in a Geelong home.

Police are combing the Robin Avenue, Norlane, property after an anonymous call alerting police about 11.36am, says Detective Senior Sergeant Stephen McIntyre from the homicide squad.

Det Sen Sgt McIntyre appealed for the man to come forward and help with the investigation.

"There's nothing to suggest that he's had anything to do with the death of this woman and it may very well be that he was someone who was just coming to visit and found the dead person and contacted police," he said.

Police have taped off a nearby pay phone from where the call was made, and Det Sen Sgt McIntyre said he doubted a red stain that appears to be blood on the phone was related.

Some of the woman's family have been told of her death, but she has yet to be formally identified.

Police will not know the cause of death until a post-mortem is done on Tuesday.

Forensic police have taken photos of the house where the woman was found and detectives are door-knocking neighbouring homes.

Local residents have said the woman was friendly and usually said hello.

One neighbour told AAP she often had visitors at her house on the weekend.

It's been reported the woman was in her 30s.
