Man charged over alleged pursuit crash

Police have charged a man who allegedly hit and seriously injured a motorist while fleeing police during a pursuit in Melbourne's north.

The 31-year-old Preston man was slapped with charges including conduct endangering life, driving while disqualified and evading police in the serious crash in Preston on Monday night.

Police earlier alleged the man sped through a red light, drove on the wrong side of the road and then T-boned a car a woman was driving after officers flashed their lights at him.

The woman suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs. Her teenage passenger escaped unscathed.

The Preston man was due to appear in the Heidelberg Magistrates' Court on Tuesday afternoon.
