A woman has been airlifted to a Melbourne hospital with serious head and leg injuries after her scooter collided with a car in regional Victoria.

The woman, in her 50s, collided with the car on the Northern Highway in Echuca just before 6pm on Saturday, an Ambulance Victoria spokesman told AAP.

The Riverine Herald reported the injured woman's scooter was thrown more than 10 metres from the road and ended up wrapped around a marker post.
