Wise heads will parachute into Vic schools

Trios of experienced educators will be dropped into underperforming Victorian schools and tasked with lifting student results.

An executive principal and two leading teachers will make up each of the so-called 'turnaround teams' under a new $50.7 million Victorian government program.

Australian Education Union Victoria President Meredith Peace said she wasn't yet aware of the finer details but welcomed the additional support to schools that have identified ways to improve.

But she said it would have to be carefully managed and she didn't want to see "so-called experts parachuted in".

"If this money is directed to ensure schools are given appropriate support to assist them, I think that's a positive thing," she told AAP.

"It's about really genuine support people working side-by-side with schools and working together to achieve that improvement."

Another state government initiative will link the lowest performing schools with the highest to facilitate the sharing of ideas.

"Everyone knows a great teacher can make all the difference," Education Minister James Merlino said.

"With better support and training, we're helping every teacher be their best."

But the opposition said the Victorian budget, released on Tuesday, had no money to improve education standard and outcomes.

"(Premier) Daniel Andrews has been too focused on politicising our schools with radical ideological studies instead of making sure our kids are getting a solid education on the basics," education spokesman Nick Wakeling said.
