Wild winds continue to lash Vic coast

WINDS BATTER VICTORIA:

WHAT TO EXPECT:

* A strong cold front over southeastern Victoria will move away to the east tonight.

* Northwest to westerly winds about 60km/h with damaging peak gusts of 90km/h to 110km/h forecast for the Central, West, South Gippsland, East Gippsland and North East districts.

* The severe weather warning for the South West district has been cancelled.

STRONGEST WINDS AS OF 4.30PM:

* Wilsons Promontory - 122km/h

* Mt Hotham - 121km/h

* Mt Buller and Mt Gellibrand - 113km/h

* Mt William - 111km/h

* Aireys Inlet - 109km/h

INCIDENTS:

* Almost 800 calls for help to the SES by 4.30pm.

* Most calls were for minor to moderate roof damage.

* Majority were from the greater Melbourne metropolitan area, concentrating on the south eastern suburbs.

* Two men hospitalised after falling tree branches hit them in separate incidents.

* One man hospitalised for a wrist injury after getting trapped in a caravan when a tree fell on it.

* Eight kayakers rescued from waters off Anglesea after being swept out to sea.
