SUPPORT FOR HAZELWOOD WORKERS:

HOW MANY JOBS?

* As of November 2016, Hazelwood directly employed 750 people - 450 employees and 300 contractors

* Modelling done for Latrobe City Council released on March 24 suggests the region will lose more than 1860 jobs as a result of the closure

STATE GOVERNMENT JOBS PLAN

* A $20 million worker transfer scheme to help about 150 retrenched Hazelwood workers move to other power generators

* Early retirement packages will be offered to create vacancies for Hazelwood workers to move into

* A $22 million support package including a worker transition centre in Morwell, help for businesses to find new opportunities and expansion of a Latrobe Valley jobs program

* Creation of the $20 million Latrobe Valley Authority to lead the state government response and future economic development of the region

ENGIE SUPPORT

* Five on-site counsellors providing job transition help, information sessions and general counselling since November

* Nearly 250 employees have taken part in one-on-one counselling sessions, which available for up to three months after a worker leaves Hazelwood

* Job-seeking support for up to 12 months after leaving the business

* More than 50 group support sessions held since mid-November including information from superannuation funds, government services, Lifeline and the Australian Defence Force

COUNCIL HELP

* The Latrobe City Council worked with its community to create a strategy paper, A Strength-Led Transition

* The 31-page, in-principle draft document was released in November 2016 and provides governments with the region's priority infrastructure and cultural projects.
