Weekend flood watch for Victoria: BOM

Parts of Victoria are on flood watch over the weekend with a strong cold front sweeping across the state.

The cold front, bringing heavy showers, will move into western Victoria late on Saturday then cross the remainder of the state on Sunday, the Bureau of Meteorology said on Friday.

"People living or working along rivers and streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop," the bureau said.

FLOOD WATCH AREAS

* East Gippsland - Mitchell, Tambo, Snowy, Cann and Genoa Rivers and Gippsland Lakes

* Greater Melbourne - Werribee, Maribyrnong, Yarra, Dandenong And Bunyip catchments

* West and South Gippsland - Latrobe, Thomson, Macalister, Avon and South Gippsland Rivers, and Gippsland Lakes
