Wagyu farmer may abandon Vic over red tape

A Victorian farmer, whose Wagyu beef has been served in more than 20 countries, may move his operation interstate after a bitter battle with his local council.

David Blackmore has farmed Wagyu cattle on his Alexandra property for the past 12 years but took his animals out of the feedlot four years ago.

It improved the quality of the meat but angered neighbours who have property in the middle of the 150-hectare farm, the ABC reports.

The Murrindindi Shire Council said he needed a permit to continue farming, which Mr Blackmore fought for two and a half years.

"We're just trying to farm," he told ABC News on Monday.
