Victorians remember lives lost in battle

Thousands will brave chilly conditions to pay their respects to fallen diggers on the centenary of Anzac in Melbourne, among heavy security.

Record crowds of up to 100,000 are expected at the revamped Shrine of Remembrance for the 6am dawn service on Saturday.

An unprecedented police presence will be visible at Anzac services around the state, amid news that a 14-year-old boy in the UK has been charged with inciting a beheading in Australia.

The teenager's arrest followed anti-terror raids and arrests in Melbourne last weekend that police said were linked to an alleged Islamic State-inspired plot for attacks on Anzac services.

Victoria Police has moved to reassure people there is no specific terror threat for Anzac Day.

Faces young and old are also expected to line the streets for the annual march, where thousands of veterans, their descendants and current serving personnel walk down St Kilda Road to the shrine.
