Victorians mark Good Friday in many ways

Victorians have packed into fish markets and attended Good Friday services on one of the most important days on the Christian calendar.

A day for new beginnings, Christian leaders have sent a clear message, hope for a more "peaceful" future.

Churches across the state were overflowing with generations of Christians on Friday and a huge crowd joined the Way of the Cross walk from Melbourne's St Francis Church to others around the city in commemoration of Jesus' journey from the Last Supper to the crucifixion and resurrection.

One of the state's most well-known events, the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal, also provided something for Victorians to do while the majority of shops were closed for the day - holding a day for the kids and numerous other fund-raising activities.

Melbourne also hosted Australia's largest Easter egg hunt, with more than 8000 kids dashing, diving and digging to find the chocolate goodies hidden at Werribee Park.

For many Good Friday is more than just a religious holiday, it's also the start of a four-day long weekend - and many hit the road towards the coast or camping grounds to take advantage of the break.
