Two Victorian men have escaped serious injury after being hit by a van driven by a terrorist who killed 16 people and injured more than 100 others in Barcelona.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said four Australians were injured in the attack at Las Ramblas, with two still in hospital in serious but stable conditions.

"Two (others) were the young men from Victoria, who, I understand, were actually hit by the car in one instance," Ms Bishop told reporters on Friday.

"They have received treatment at hospital, but both have been discharged."

It's understood the van grazed the men rather than hitting them square on.

Ms Bishop said the men had been in contact with Australian officials.

"We have spoken to them directly. I'm assuming that the authorities will follow them up," she said.
