Victorian surplus doubles prediction

Victoria's budget surplus for the 2016/17 financial year has more than doubled to $2.7 billion, new figures show.
The May budget predicted the operating surplus to be $1.3 billion for the last financial year, but the state's financial report released on Thursday revealed a $1.4 billion increase.
Net debt was lower than the revised budget estimate, sitting at four per cent of gross state product.
