Three men charged over alleged Vic murder

Two men have been charged with murder as part of a long-running investigation into a body found dumped outside a Melbourne cemetery.

A third man has also been charged with accessory to murder.

Luke Paul Maybus, 27, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday facing charges of murder, theft and destruction of property.

The charges relate to the murder of glazier Michael Strike, whose body was found on the side of the road opposite Keilor Cemetery on May 25 last year.

Maybus is also accused of stealing and setting fire to a van belonging to Doherty's Gym, in Brunswick, the day after he allegedly killed Mr Strike.

Defence lawyer Daniella Markotich did not apply for bail, but said Maybus had recently undergone surgery to have a plate and 23 screws put in his head.

Police on Thursday night charged two further men as a result of their ongoing investigation into Mr Strike's death.

Brunswick man John Walker, 32, was charged with one count of murder while Boronia man Joseph Girgis, 42, was charged with accessory to murder.

The pair faced an out-of-sessions court hearing and were remanded to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

Maybus was remanded to reappear in the court on June 4.
