More than a quarter of all weekday speeding offences in Victoria are happening in school drop-off and pick-up hours, sparking fears for the safety of "vulnerable" children.

"Concerning" data collected by Victoria Police found 22,000 speeding fines in the state were issued between 8-9.30am and 2.30-4pm, which made up 26 per cent of weekday fines.

Highway Patrol Acting Sergeant Raj Gennie said a month-long operation outside three Wyndham schools netted drunk and drugged drivers, along with a driver doing more than 25km/h over the speed limit.

"Kids are one of the most vulnerable people on the roads and it's our responsibility as drivers to make sure kids go to school and get home safely," Gennie told 9News.

"We focused on educating the parents and initially we have had numerous complaints about speeding in school zones."

Parent Jackie Wallace said it was important for all drivers to take more care on roads, especially in school zones.

"People need to realise that there are children around, just slow down," Wallace told 9News.

"Our children are little and they are still learning how to cross the road, people tend to go a bit fast, park in unsafe spots and they need to slow down because these children are our future.

"We hope people do the right thing."

Wallace said parents in the area were pleased to see police out to remind drivers to slow down.
