Seven taken to hospital over Vic weather

Seven people have been taken to hospital, including a young boy and a toddler after fallen trees caused widespread damage across Victoria.

In the worst accident, five people were injured after their car hit a tree at Moyston, about 100km northwest of Ballarat, late on Friday night.

A young boy suffered head and chest injuries and was taken to Royal Children's Hospital in a serious condition, Ambulance Victoria says.

All the other occupants, including a toddler with minor facial injuries, were taken to Ballarat Base hospital.

Paramedics were called to three other incidents involving fallen trees in one hour on Saturday morning.

Ferocious winds and heavy rain have seen more than 200 calls to the SES since midnight.

The whole of the state was affected, with SES saying fallen trees were causing the most damage.

Flood warnings are in place, mostly in the state's northeast, after more than 80mm of rain fell in the past 24 hours.

Numerous cold fronts are currently making their way across the state, bringing icy conditions, heavy rain and strong winds.

Wilson's Promontory recorded winds as high as 144km/h on Saturday.

Ballarat and Bendigo saw temperatures hover close to zero, with snow falling around the 800m mark.

Things will improve overnight and into the morning on Sunday, but another cold front is expected to bring more bad weather Sunday night and into Monday, the Bureau of Meteorology says.

"Monday afternoon/evening there will be a somewhat stronger cold front so we may well see the wind gusting up to around 90 to 100km/h in the coast again, and probably 20-30mm of rainfall in the northeast," senior forecaster Scott Williams told AAP.
