Victoria's 'loved' pubs get financial help

Victorians might not be able to crowd pubs to watch the footy this winter but their "loved" local venues will get a funding boost to help them get through the coroanvirus crisis.

The Victorian government announced on Sunday that $40 million will be available to licensed venues who cannot access rent relief.

Pubs, clubs and restaurants with an individual annual turnover inferior to $50 million will be able to access financial help.

"Pubs and clubs are a vital part of Victorian life and it's important that size does not mean that operators are locked out of support and protections in lease negotiations," Jobs Minister Martin Pakula said.

The aid each venue will receive will be determined by a committee formed by bodies including the Australian Hotels Association, Community Clubs Victoria, Music Victoria, and the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Free mediation services to tenants who hold a liquor licence will also be available to help them reach agreements with their landlords.
