Victoria 'dry and ready to burn' says Country Fire Authority

Victoria is dry and ready to burn according to the state's fire authorities.

A high fire danger rating and temperatures in the 30s have prompted a total fire ban day to be declared in the state's north east today.

"With conditions worsening it's important victorians are vigilant on Monday, as any fire which starts, in the north east in particular, will be difficult to control," CFA chief officer Euan Ferguson said.

The ban prevents fires being lit in open areas, including campfires.

"With thousands of Victorians taking a break and heading to the bush it's critical visitors understand their surroundings and the fire danger and plan accordingly," Mr Ferguson said.

Last week more than 350 fires were started by lightning alone, the CFA says.
