Victoria braces for severe fire danger
Victoria is facing its most severe fire danger so far this summer, with temperatures forecast to soar into the high 30s in the coming days.
Total fire bans are in place in every region except East Gippsland on Friday, then covering the whole state on Saturday.
"It's extremely dry. Victoria's almost in a sub semi-drought in some parts," Emergency Management Commissioner Craig Lapsley told reporters on Thursday.
As firefighters prepare for the worst, paramedics are urging people to check on family and friends, particularly those over 65.
"Try to stay inside, use cooling if you have it, and drink plenty of water unless your doctor has restricted your fluid intake," Ambulance Victoria State Health Commander Paul Holman said.
