A Victorian woman who was due to stand trial for murdering a man in her home has pleaded guilty to defensive homicide.

Bonnie Sawyer-Thompson faced the Victorian Supreme Court in Morwell on Thursday where she admitted killing Jack Nankervis, 23, in June 2014.

The crime of defensive homicide occurs when a person kills in the honest, but mistaken belief that they are acting in self-defence.
