Not guilty plea over Vic taxi driver death

A Melbourne woman has pleaded not guilty to causing the death of a taxi driver after she allegedly sped through a red light.

Natasha Karishma Sanyasi on Thursday pleaded not guilty to culpable driving causing death and other driving and drug possession charges following the death of taxi driver Dilawer Shah in Fawkner.

Mr Shah was on the way home from his shift when his taxi was hit by a car, allegedly driven by Sanyasi, on July 16.

Prosecutors have previously alleged Sanyasi, 33, was travelling at an "excessive and grossly negligent" speed on the night of the crash.

When she pleaded not guilty on Thursday, the Melbourne Magistrates Court heard the issue of mental impairment had been raised.

Sanyasi, of Oakleigh South, is due to face a directions hearing in the Victorian County Court on Friday.

She is on bail with a series of conditions, including a $10,000 surety, a curfew and reporting to police.
