Jealous Vic husband guilty of murder

A jealous man who stabbed his estranged wife with a chef's knife, mutilated her, then called for an ambulance, has been found guilty of murder.

Bona Lual, 37, had repeatedly threatened to kill the mother of his four children, Suzi Oghia, 31, because he thought she was having an affair.

During his Victorian Supreme Court trial, Crown prosecutor Andrew Tinney said Lual forced their eldest son to keep a record of every time Ms Oghia left her Noble Park house, and he regularly turned up there uninvited.

Lual, of Doveton, also told a friend of Ms Oghia that if he found out she was having an affair he would kill her, the other person, and go to jail.

The court heard he told Ms Oghia men he knew who were in jail for killing their wives were happy because they had good food and slept well.

Shortly before she was killed on November 5, 2013, Ms Oghia confided in a friend that Lual was following her everywhere.

The couple had migrated to Australia from Sudan in 2005, but had an unhappy marriage because Lual was a "jealous and suspicious" man who constantly accused Ms Oghia of having an affair, the court heard.

By 2013 they were separated and Ms Oghia lived with their four children in Melbourne's southeast.

The night she died, Ms Oghia went to a Melbourne Cup party and was followed by Lual, who had not been invited.

When she left, he followed her home.

Ms Oghia died from a single 13cm deep stab wound inflicted while her four children slept in a room next door.

Her eyes were also mutilated.

After the murder, Lual called triple zero, telling the dispatcher a woman had been stabbed because she was fighting with her husband.

He told the triple zero dispatcher to hurry up because "the lady is going to die soon" before admitting he was the one who stabbed her.

Lual was arrested and charged with murdering Ms Oghia, but pleaded not guilty.

On Wednesday, a Victorian Supreme Court jury found him guilty of the charge.

Lual will return to the court for a plea hearing on June 19.

During the trial, Mr Tinney said there was no evidence Ms Oghia had ever had an affair.
