Vic warning for toxic algae in the Murray

An outbreak of toxic blue-green algae in the Murray River has spread to Albury-Wodonga.

People are being warned not to enter the water, boil it for drinking or let their pets swim in it.

High levels of it have been detected in the river near the towns of Albury, Barmah, Cobram, Corowa, Echuca, Gunbower, Howlong, Moama, Nathalia, Torrumbarry, Wodonga, Yarrawonga.

People should avoid contact with the water, which can't be made safe for drinking, cooking or washing - even if boiled.
