Victorian train deal expected after long pay dispute

A long-running dispute between Melbourne train drivers and Metro Trains may not be over, with whispers the union has only delayed planned strikes for AFL grand final week.

Finishing touches to a pay deal were expected yesterday after both Metro and the government announced they had reached a deal on Friday night, but the Rail, Tram and Bus Union said that was not the case.

Following that announcement the union called off train strikes proposed for AFL grand final week, which would have included refusing to check myki cards on grand final day.

Train workers have already gone on strike once as they fought against changes to rostering and training.

Comment has been sought from the union.
