The threat from a bushfire burning in Victoria's Mallee region has eased, but the fire remains out of control.

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning downgraded an emergency warning to watch and act for the tiny farming communities of Dattuck and Burroin, near Hopetoun.

The hamlets have been threatened by the 1267-hectare bushfire in mallee scrub in the Wyperfeld National Park, which broke out amid heat and gusty northwesterly winds this afternoon.

A spokeswoman from Victoria's State Control Centre says there are no reports of any damage to private property.

But a cooler southwesterly wind change is now pushing the fire northeast and out of the park.

An additional advice warning remains in place for Yarto, Hopetoun West, Hopetoun, Lascelles and Yaapeet.

The advice says those communities are not under threat but residents should stay alert and monitor conditions.
