Almost every Victorian primary school has failed to give its students the recommended weekly amount of foreign language lessons.

Despite primary schools significantly increasing enrolments in language programs and the 21st century being termed the Asian century, 99 per cent of students are still receiving less than the recommended two-and-a-half hours of foreign language teaching each week.

The Victorian education department data shows the average student receives just under an hour each week with little improvement in the past six years.
