Vic scammers ask for cyclone Debbie funds

Fake fundraisers posing as Victoria's CFA have been calling people asking for donations for victims of cyclone Debbie.

The fire authority sent out a warning on Thursday saying scammers were calling people asking for donations to buy equipment for those affected by the devastating cyclone in Queensland.

"We have reports of people being approached by phone for donations from someone claiming to be raising funds for CFA," CFA State Agency Commander Tony O'Day said.

"This is categorically not the case, CFA does not undertake unsolicited fundraising activities."
