Vic taxi drivers talk with govt over Uber

Victoria's taxi industry hopes there will be "room to move" after meeting with the government to voice concerns over proposed ride-sharing reforms.

The Victorian Taxi and Hire Car Families group met with Transport Minister Jacinta Allan's advisers on Friday, summarising its worries over changes announced last month that will see taxi licences scrapped and drivers subsidised.

The government expects to buy back licences and will provide for a maximum of two licences with $100,000 for the first licence and $50,000 for the second - something the group says is inadequate.

VTHCF is set to continue discussions with the government next week, and is still looking into launching legal action if a compromise can't be reached.

"We're kind of hoping there will be room to move," VTHCF president Sandy Spanos told AAP on Friday.
