Vic roadside memorials may be regulated

Roadside memorials to mark the scene of fatal crashes could be regulated across Victoria.

Vicroads' new proposed guidelines say memorials must not pose an "unacceptable distraction to road users" and that reflective materials, such as cellophane around flowers, will not be allowed.

They cannot be attached to any signs, barriers or light poles.

Vicroads has even put a condition on the size and colour of a cross, which should be "constructed from timber, be neutral in colour and not exceed 850mm long".

Currently no time limit applies, but under the new plan memorials would be removed after 13 months.
