Vic roads shut after tanker spill

Drivers will face detours until midday while a site in regional Victoria is cleared after a car crashed into a petrol tanker, killing the car driver.

Police believe the 49-year-old Hastings man deliberately drove the car onto the wrong side of the road and crashed into the tanker at Tyabb on Thursday night.

They are treating it as a deliberate act of self-harm.

The tanker, carrying LPG and petrol, caught fire but the main tank was not breached.

The tanker driver escaped with only minor cuts and grazes.

A Vic Roads spokesman said the roads were expected to be closed until midday on Saturday, as police were still at the scene investigating and emptying the fuel tanker.

He said the Dandenong-Hastings Rd, between Bungower Rd and O'Neil Rd, and Tyabb-Tooradin Rd was closed.
