Vic records first holiday road fatality

A man has died after losing control of his car on a freeway, becoming Victoria's first fatality in the official Christmas and New Year road toll period.
Police say the silver Proton sedan was travelling outbound on the Monash Freeway in Dandenong North before appearing to lose control and hit wire barriers on the centre median strip about 1.30am.
The driver, who is yet to be identified, died at the scene. He was alone in the car.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
