Vic protesters voice anger at horse deaths

Protesters have gathered in Melbourne's busy Bourke Street Mall to voice their anger over the deaths of horses in jumps racing events.

The more than 50 demonstrators say one in 30 horses on the racetrack die while jumps racing, and are calling for the government to take immediate action.

More horses died during jumps races in Victoria this week and the group says it has "had enough of the slaughter".

The debate over jumps racing has been reignited after the two horses were put down following serious falls during a race meet at Cranbourne racetrack on Wednesday.
