Prisoner on the run after apparently using car to escape from northern Victorian jail

A prisoner has escaped from a minimum security jail in Victoria's north.

Stuart Holmes is believed to have left the Dhurringile Prison on Monday about 3.30pm (AEDT) in a car and has not been seen since.

The 35-year-old is described as being of Pacific Islander appearance, with a solid build, brown eyes and short cropped greying hair.

He was last seen wearing prison greens and police have released a photo of him.

Anyone who sees him is urged not to approach him, but to call triple zero.
