Vic prison riot case goes to committal

The case against Victoria's justice department over allegations it created an unsafe workplace when a smoking ban led to a prison riot will be heard in November.

A riot broke out in the Ravenhall Metropolitan Remand Centre in June 2015 over a smoking ban and caused $12 million worth of damage.

WorkSafe has charged the Department of Justice with failing to maintain a safe workplace and the matter will be heard at a two-day committal hearing in Melbourne Magistrates' Court from November 8.
