If the federal government gets rid of an anti-bullying program that focuses on gender and sexuality issues, Victoria will pay to keep it running in the state, the premier says.

"We'll lock that funding in at a state level - because if it saves just one life, it's worth it," Premier Daniel Andrews said on Wednesday in a Facebook post.

Mr Andrews says the Safe Schools program will have a place in Victoria's schools "long after Cory Bernardi and the rest of his dinosaurs eventually disappear".
