Vic police target drink drivers

One in 150 drivers were found drink driving as police blitzed Victoria's Mornington Peninsula.

Victoria Police breath-tested more than 1500 drivers over the weekend, the first in a series of operations over the summer holidays.

Sergeant David Collins said he was disappointed at the number of drivers who still think its OK to drink and drive despite years of education.

"We are all for people going out and celebrating Christmas and New Year, but we also want everyone to make it home," Sgt Collins said on Tuesday.

"I do not want any of my members to have to knock on the door of a mother or father and tell them that their loved one won't make it to Christmas this year or ever again."

Ten drivers were found to be driving over the legal alcohol limit during the weekend blitz.

One woman blew 0.118 before admitting that she was using her sister's licence because she was a probationary driver.

Another woman, on her P-plates, was detected in excess of 0.05.

Her licence was suspended as it wasn't her first offence.

Another driver received a $295 fine for drinking alcohol while driving.
